Amanda Joshi is a native New Yorker who has been involved in theatre all her life. As a child and young adult acting in annual community shows in the Bronx and in Westchester, she quickly acquired an undying love and respect for all the people and elements that go into creating a theatrical production.
Amanda quickly moved past the "acting bug" however, and found a new niche in directing and stage management. While attending Hunter College for her Bachelors in Theatre, she worked on productions such as A Midsummer Night's Dream (SM) and Scriptaphobia (Dir) at Hunter College; The Passion Play (SM) at the Park Performing Arts Center in New Jersey; The Heiress (ASM) at the Mint Theatre; and The Importance of Being Earnest (Dir) for Roundtable Ensemble in NYC.
In 2003 Amanda founded and became Artistic Director of Wizard Oil Productions, a non-profit theatre company dedicated to broadening awareness about current social issues. She produced and directed many of Wizard Oil's shows including Welcome Home Steve by Craig McNulty at the Players Theatre Loft; Softly Sara Falls by Jay Hanagan at the Looking Glass Theatre; and Wizard Oil's most recent one-act festival, Le Grand Fromage at The Producer's Club.
Amanda has also spent many years working with various theatres and playwrights on script development. She began working with middle and high school students at SUNY Purchase, teaching improvisation and the basics of story writing. From there she went on to work with the Northern Westchester Center for the Arts where she spent 4 summers guiding young playwrights through the script development process and directing their work. Amanda has also worked for various theatre companies in NYC with a similar focus on new plays, including Abingdon Theatre Company and New Dramatists, where she spent a year as the PlayLab Assistant.
Amanda is thrilled to be joining the ranks at the IAAC as its Theatre Director, where she can continue to produce new, exciting and original work that speaks not only to the Indo-Americans among us but to people of all backgrounds and nationalities.
