Director Based in New Delhi, Pamela Rooks started her career as producer of current affairs programmes on television. She went on to make several critically acclaimed documentaries on political and social issues such as AIDS crisis and terrorism in Punjab and Kashmir. Dance like a Man is her third feature film, the first being Miss Beatty’s Children (1992) based on her own novel on the missionaries in Southern India. This won won her several awards including the National Aaward for Best Film and for Cinematography. Her second film, Train to Pakistan, based on Kushwant Singh’s classic book on the partition of India, created considerable controversy with the Censor board but was universally acclaimed by critics in India and abroad. |
