Vinay Chowdhry, USA, 2008; 85 min. NY Premiere.

PERSONALITY
Synopsis: Does Rajesh have it – that “personality" code for good-looking, light-skinneddancers who are hip and confident? A talented and hard-working dancer, he has moved far from his village in northern India to Bombay to find out. Under the tutelage of Sanjay, his outspoken yet introspective guru, Rajesh sets out to achieve his dream as a chorus boy, giving us a rare peek at the dances and dancers so essential to popular Indian cinema. Sanjay is compassionate and encouraging but realistic, working with Rajesh to develop that "personality” sought by film choreographers.
Director: Vinay Chowdhry is a first generation South-Asian American born in Philadelphia, PA. As a faculty member in the New School University's Media Studies Program and as the Media Arts Director at Little Red School House & Elisabeth Irwin High School (LREI), he takes a practical and hands-on approach to film and video curriculum, simulating real world experience in the classroom. He holds an MFA from Bard College's Milton Avery Graduate School for the Arts and a BA in Film and Video from Pennsylvania State University. His films include Line of Control (2002), a short film on the partition of India and Pakistan. Mr. Chowdhry is the founder of Prospect Pictures, a full-service production and post-production company based in Brooklyn, NY and will launch goboHD, a web-based series in high definition, in 2009.
