Deepak Kumar Pareek is an acclaimed singer whose repertoire consists of bhajans, ghazals, Rajasthani folk music and old Hindi filmi music. He is an accomplished composer, having won the Oceanic Award in an international music competition in 2006. Deepak is proficient in playing the harmonium, guitar and keyboards and has performed in prestigious venues in India and the U.S., delighting both western and Indian audiences. His music creates a deep spiritual energy that touches each listener deeply. That gift, coupled with his princely good looks and soulful voice, ensures a memorable experience for Deepak's audience.
Born into a musical family in Rajasthan, India, Deepak's first music teacher was his father, Shri P.N. Vyas and he continued his studies with masters Ustad R.F. Dagar, Ustad Moinuddin Khan and Mohinderjit Singh. He now is passing along his artistry to his students at the Ananda Ashram where he is on the faculty of the East-West School of Music. He also teaches private and group classes in New York City and Philadelphia.
In the New York City area, Deepak has performed at Christies, the Chopra Center, Sirius Radio, the ARCH, Golden Bridge Yoga, Jivamukti Yoga, among other venues, and recently traveled on a cross-country tour with the famous gypsy troupe Musafir. He has appeared on ITV, TVAsia, Indian National TV and All India Radio. His newest CD "Universal Songs of Kabir" features Kabir's poetry set to Deepak's original compositions.
