The Indo American Arts Council has created an alliance with Zata.tv to promote South Asian content on this video-on-demand portal. Aroon Shivdasani, Executive Director of the IAAC said, "The IAAC is dedicated to promoting Indian artistic disciples (performing arts, visual arts, literary arts) in North America. As we embark on our 10th year, we, at the IAAC, have strengthened our resolve to bring artists and their audiences even closer - using traditional, as well as novel emerging techniques The Annual IAAC Film Festival has ballooned to mammoth proportions in the last six years. This relationship will significantly augment IAAC's efforts to further expand festival audiences".

Zata.tv is an independent distribution platform established to showcase South Asian content in an online Video-On-Demand format. While Zata's definition of South Asian content is broad - anything of interest to or about the subcontinent, the focus is only on high quality, alternative content that is not available in the mainstream media. Zata Indies is the first channel. As the name suggests, it is designed to promote independent features, documentaries, and shorts films made with a South Asian theme or by South Asian filmmakers. Karthik Bezawada, CEO of Zata feels that "Zata's goal is to develop a portfolio of niche channels, each with a dedicated community of consumers and contributors. Zata wants these channels to showcase both well-recognized works as well as emerging artists and is excited by the potential of new media that makes this open approach economically attractive. Simultaneously, lasting lessons from successful old media will be adopted - maintaining quality and a unique editorial voice. This alliance with the IAAC is therefore an experiment in open distribution with strong editorial feedback with both Zata and its users."

“In a rapidly changing media landscape, the IAAC is committed to exploring new platforms for showcasing talent and reaching audiences wider than those that are accommodated in film theatres during the week of our Annual Film Festivals”, comments Festival Director Pooja Kohli. “This partnership has made it possible to showcase year-round, select films from the IAAC Film Festival line-up”.
