Sabrina Dhawan


Sabrina Dhawan, a resident of New York City graduated from Columbia University’s film programme in 2001 with a Masters of Fine Aarts degree in Film. Prior to this she was a copywriter for an advertising group, Lintas, Bombay and a correspondent with Newstrack, TV Today, of the India Today Group.

Saanjh was Sabrina’s thesis film and was cited as the "Best of the Festival" at Palm Springs Film Festival in 2000. It also won an award from the New Line Cinema for "Most Original Film" at the Polo Ralph Lauren New Works Festival, 2000, Audience Impact Award at Angelus Awards and nominated for a Student Academy Award. Saanjh has toured 20 other festivals including Rotterdam Film Festival, BBC British Short Film Festival and Clermond-Ferrand. It has been screened for PBS stations in California and Texas, and has had a Theatrical run at Real Art Ways CT.

Sabrina’s first produced screen play Monsoon Wedding directd by Mira Nair won awards and recognition worldwide. Sabrina was recently awarded for Best Story at Bollywood Awards. Other screen play credits include "11.9.01" , a short film on September 11th, commissioned by Canal Plus, "Cosmopolitan" for PBS and "Death of Vishnu" for Arena Pictures. She is currently working on scripts for Killer Films "Boys Don’t Cry", "Far from Heaven" and "One Hour Photo".
