Isheeta Ganguly |
Isheeta is a fusion singer of the Indian diaspora who began her musical journey at the tender age of seven and released her first Rabindrasangeet album at the age of fifteen. Raised in the U.S., Turkey, Japan and Indonesia, Isheeta's music weaves together the many threads of her musical journey from her training in Tagore's music (under the great maestro, Suchitra Mitra) to her versatile training and performance in jazz, pop and R&B styles throughout her years of growing up in New York. She has released seven widely acclaimed Rabindrasangeet albums since her childhood (see www.isheetamusic.com) and more recently recently her first fusion album, "Damaru - I Feel Your Rhythm", arranged by Bollywood music producer Shantanu Moithra and Grammy award winning percussionist Tanmoy Bose, which has remained on top of the Indian international music charts since its release in August 2010. "Damaru weaves together folk-pop, R&B and Tagore's music into a contemporary, first of its kind 'Tagore lounge' sound appealing to music listeners globally", writes the Rolling Stone magazine. The album also includes the acclaimed "Bande Mataram" track which features a voice-over by actor John Abraham of Tagore's poem, "Where the Mind is Without Fear". She has also collaborated on a number of other international Tagore fusion multi-media projects including "Chiranthan" with Amitabh Bachchan & Tanushree Shankar, "Still I Rise" with danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, and "A Tribute to Tagore" with the late Ustad Vilayat Khan. |
