New York Indian Film Festival Closing Night Ceremony

New York : The glamorous and prestigious New York Indian Film Festival was concluded on Sunday night, 8th May 2011 at Asian Society in New York City. Rituparno Ghosh's powerful film Noukadubi was screened on closing night red carpet event which was attended by Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh Kapoor, Salman Rushdie, Mira Nair, Aparna Sen, Madhur Jaffrey, Ambassador Prakash Shah, Consul General Prabhu Dayal, and many other notable celebrities in various fields. Following the premiere at Asia Society in Manhattan was the festival's annual awards ceremony. The winners are listed below.

Best Feature Film - Sthaniya Sambaad (Spring in the Colony), directed by Arjun Gourisaria & Moinak Biswas
Best Director - Aparna Sen, Iti Mrinalini
Best Actor - Rishi Kapoor, Do Dooni Chaar, directed by Habib Faisal

Best Actress - Konkona Sen Sharma, Iti Mrinalini, directed by Aparna Sen
Best Screenplay - Mohan Raghavan, T.D. Dasan Std. VI B, directed by Mohan Raghavan
Best Documentary - Bhopali, directed by Van Maximilian Carlson.
Best Short Film - Just That Sort Of A Day, directed by Abhay Kumar.

There were two Malayalam movies in this festival. But only a few Malayalees came out to attend this film festival. The organizers of this film festival wish more Malayalees will attend their future events and consider to join Indo- American Arts Council.
