Disney goes Bollywood at NY Indian Film Fest

Festival News Disney's first live action Indian film Do Dooni Chaar has been set as the opening film of the New York Indian Film Festival (4-8 May 2011). The festival, organised by the Indo-American Arts Council, also announced Rituparno Ghosh's Noukadubi, an adaptation of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's acclaimed novel, which stars sisters Riya and Raima Sen, as its closing film. Bengali-language Iti Mrinalini, directed by Aparna Sen will premiere as the festival's Centerpiece selection. The film features Sen and her daughter, award-winning actress Konkona Sen Sharma, both playing the same title role at different ages. "Do Dooni Chaar is a great example of India's new emerging cinema that has an indie soul, but working within the framework of Bollywood," said NYIFF director Aseem Chhabra.It was made by first time director Habib Faisal and stars husband and wife team Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh. It was released in India last October.
