Labour of Love wins again, in New York!
May 12, 2015, 01.48PM IST
Zinia Sen,

The dream run continues for Asha Jaoar Majhe (Labour of Love) and how! Not only did the film bag two National Awards — Best Debut Film of a Director and Best Audiography (Sound Designer) this year — it has brought home further glory. The film has gone on to bag three awards at the recently concluded New York Indian Film Festival.

Says director Aditya Vikram Sengupta, "On May 9, a friend called to inform me that the movie has received the awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay. We were elated." Last year, Aditya received the Best Debut Director at the Venice International Film Festival and got a Special Jury Mention at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival. The film was nominated for the prestigious Sutherland Trophy at the London Film Festival, where he received the Young Jury Honourable Mention. This dialogueless film was next screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival. "It's been an amazing journey for Labour of Love... we have learnt a lot and have been encouraged by numerous accolades around the world. It reinforces my belief that the more rooted and honest an expression is, the more hearts it touches. What means most to me is how people in Kolkata react to the film," said Aditya, who was struggling to release his film and is relieved that it will finally hit theatres in June.

Set in the backdrop of spiralling recession, Asha Jaoar Majhe reflects on how an union of souls is reduced to just another marriage.
