Nandini Chirimar was born in 1967 and grew up in Jaipur, India. She came to the USA in 1987 for further studies. She did a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Cornell University (1990), a summer residency at the Skowhegan School of Art (1991), and an MFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute, College of Art (1993).

Nandini lived and worked in New York City before going to Japan in 2000. She spent four years in Tokyo learning Japanese Woodblock Printing (Hanga), exhibiting her work and teaching art. She moved back to New York City in Aug. 2004, where she lives now with her husband and two daughters.

Nandini has worked in many media over the years, including painting, handmade paper, printmaking and photography. Currently she is working on mixed media work using painting, drawing, collage, objects and woodblock printing.

Nandini's work relates to her life: things she comes in contact with, places she visits, and her own daily practical, emotional and visual experiences. She is interested in objects, products, toys, cities, houses, patterns, traditional and current culture, conversations, feelings and facts.  She combines different media with images and words to explore the above in her work.

Over the years, Nandini has exhibited in the USA, India and Japan, including solo exhibitions in New York City and Tokyo.
