Sheena Sood lives in Brooklyn, NY and has worked as a designer at Zac Posen, Tracy Reese, and Cole Haan. She studied art and textile design at Brown University, Central Saint Martins College in London, and The Rhode Island School of Design.

In 2013 she launched abacaxi, a contemporary women’s fashion label of eclectic, wearable pieces that juxtapose bold colors with playful shapes.

abacaxi noun \¦abəkə¦shē\ : a large sweet pineapple grown esp. in Brazil

The spring-summer 2013 capsule collection, made in New York City, is inspired by Sheena’s travels to India. Each garment repurposes a one-of-a-kind piece of ornate embroidered fabric (sourced from traditional Indian kurtas and sari blouses) to create stunning looks. The textiles feature mirror-work and embroidery from Rajasthan (specifically Jaisalmer and Jodhpur) and kantha silk from Bengal.
