Artist Statement

Pattern always intrigues me. Born and raised in the southern part of Pakistan, where not only bright colors but also abundance of printed and embroidered patterns on clothing delineates the dress code of femininity.
Patterning has been a significant element in my art making. For me, rendering labor -intensive pattern, not only becomes a meditation, but its perpetual rhythm also symbolizes my daily routine in a cyclic déjà vu manner. I am interested in investigating the role of visual pattern and its use as a sort of camouflaging the underlying themes and narratives with recognizable visuals. This hybridization suggests an odd connection of visual symbols and characters within the designed spaces of my work.
