ARTIST STATEMENT
 
“My experiments on canvas have been explorations of my abilities, and attempts at understanding nuances of the rapidly changing social landscape in urban India. Ideals and values instilled during childhood quickly dissolved into a confused youth as my perceptions of life and relationships underwent a dramatic metamorphosis. Women became the dominating protagonists in my stories – bold, sensitive and thought provoking. In their tough and gritty yet sensuous and beautiful avatars, they tread the fine line between tradition and modern. With my new series, “Discoveries”, the attention turns inwards to reflect on a woman’s state of mind in different life-scenarios.

I am a self-taught artist, an autodidact, with a generous endowment of artistic genes. An early recognition of inherent talent generated interest, but traditional academic compulsions took me through college and a bachelor’s degree in literature. Thereafter I was intoxicated with the glamour of a career in fashion and the prospect of entrepreneurship. This landed me in India’s premier fashion institute, NIFT, and spurred me onto a roller coaster ride of the fashion world. Through all this time, the canvas remained my first love and I have come back to it time and again to find expression. From my first series “Spice of Life” to “Relationship Metamorphoses” to the current “Glimpses from the Terabytical Depths of an Uncharted Mind”…..it has been a very interesting journey. ? ? As I settle down in the Big Apple halfway around the globe from my home, I look forward to many productive years of exploration and discovery.”
