ARTIST STATEMENT

The conflict between nature and mankind has been the subject of my artwork over the past several years. The continual expansion of cities, the destruction of smaller dwellings to be replaced by highrises and the total lack of consideration for the importance of nature all around us has resulted in tremendous atmospheric disasters. Forests are being decimated, fields are being replaced by highways, rivers are being damned, pipelines are creating havoc and the list goes on. This disregard for nature has led to global warming and the future of our planet is at risk.

I am continuing with my theme of nature versus mankind in my current work, but with the emphasis being on climate change. Rivers overflow their banks in my painting, ‘Estuary’. ‘Flood’ represents the massive flooding that has taken place this year, here in the States and elsewhere in the world. Our landscape has taken a beating with draughts caused by inflated temperatures leading to barren land incapable of producing much needed crops. Fortunately there are some brave and tenacious farmers who continue to sow seeds in an attempt to bring back some balance to our ill treated planet, depicted in the painting “As you Show, ….”
